Event Description:
Topic- Grief Education Conversation

Join Mt. Hood hospice’s bereavement coordinator Laura Lirette for a grief education conversation that will help us better understand our own grief as well as support those who are grieving. We will address different ways to think about grief and share tips for supporting ourselves or someone else when a big loss happens. Since March of 2020 required change in how we gather and support grief our programs became virtual. While we do offer in-person groups, many are still online. Mt. Hood Hospice has one of the most robust free community grief and caregiver support programs in hospice care. There were seven different types of support groups were held, 45 different sessions and 117 attendees in 2020 whereas in 2021 there were 21 groups, 187 different sessions and 636 attendees! A growth of almost 450%.

The Mt. Hood Hospice bereavement coordinator, Laura Lirette has a Master’s in Education, a Master’s in Social Work and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She has transformed and grown our bereavement program in the last two years. Unlike most hospices, we have a full-time bereavement coordinator, who solely focuses on supporting our families and those in the community. Laura previously worked in affordable housing, parent education and trauma recovery with marginalized populations. She also taught in public schools and feels right at home in the hospice field. Laura enjoys cold water swimming, road trips and playing with her two dogs Milton and Max.
