The name Gresham in Oregon began in 1884 when a local storekeeper named a post office after Postmaster General Walter Q. Gresham. In this history talk, Jim Mockford looks at Gresham's career as Secretary of State a decade later. His lasting influence on U.S. foreign policy with China and Japan also had an impact in Oregon. We will look at the world of the 19th century statesman Walter Q. Gresham from Oregon to Asia and how to remember him today.
